If you would like to know how to invest in what I believe is God’s vision for Grace Of The Lord, this list may serve to help.
This is not an exhaustive list of our needs. We may at any given point be doing a specific designated funds raiser, but the list below details our high-level needs.
Worship Music Leader– We know that many church shoppers will choose their church based on the music ministry, whether we like it or not. Our group has no live music. Many of those who have come to serve have left us for opportunities that pay more. We can afford very little, if anything to invest here, so we desire God to send us either A) a Christian servant who is not in it for the money, or B) funds enough to make the position more attractive.
Bookkeeper – As of now, my wife does our books. She is a pro, and somebody I trust explicitly and unfortunately, we have nobody else in house who can, or should, help. We also cannot afford to pay for a bookkeeper. We had to retool the financial practices of our church, because the previous team had literally killed their church with their methods. Since we have taken this over, the church is seeing much better financial health then it has ever seen. Now that we are in maintenance mode, we want to hand the bookkeeping over, but have nobody. We need A) a Christian servant who is not in it for the money, or B) funds enough to make the position more attractive.
Outreach and Ministry Support Team – I am grateful that God has trusted us with a group of people to work on. They support us financially and give their time in attendance faithfully. However, there is little participation in service or ministry on the labor level. This is not new to my time as their leader. Each leader who has come before me expresses similar experiences. Therefore, if I want to hit the milestones I desire, I could really gain from some help in the manpower and labor. I have a huge list of ideas and practical services we can do to impact our community, but while it is just me doing the work, the progress is slow. I need Christians who are willing to commit some time in a volunteer capacity, who are reliable, and trustworthy. We have had many come to me and say they would like to get involved, but beyond talking about it, I have seen no follow-through.
Teachers – We are looking for help teaching Sunday School, Small Groups, Childrens Church, and nursery.
Missions – We need some help with our Pakistan church plant movment. This would mean preching online, and regular communications through the day to equip and encourage our Pakistan ministry leaders.
Day-to-day help – During service we have so many things I wish we were doing better, but either my team does not value these things enough to help with them, or my team is so thinly stretched, that things fall through the cracks.
Note: Many of these jobs could be done by the same person. I know, because as of now, I do most of this.
1) Audio Visual help – Somebody to run my screens and sound board, and to help put the order of service together during the week.
2) Transportation assistance – My van driver helps to transport about half my congregation, so our group is dependent on this ministry. He often has to call off, and even when he is available, this task is larger than one person can handle. We need somebody to help with rides every week.
3) Welcome – We need somebody who will take seriously the task of handing out bulletins, walking with visitors through my goals for new-comers, and generally taking charge of hospitality
4) Opening and closing – We could use somebody who would be happy to help with the general labor of setting up for service and cleaning up afterwards.
Church Budget – God has been so good. He led us to a building where we could meet on Sundays, and it was a once in a lifetime deal, at least in today’s market. We know that God has a plan for how to sustain us here, but as of today, I am not sure what that is. We need approximately $1200 per month more for us to afford our rent, and that still has us coming out of pocket on plenty. We seek tenants to share the space with, thinking maybe God will bless another group with this space, and provide for us at the same time. However, that has not happened, despite my efforts. If we had this $1200, we would still just be covering our operating expenses, and continue to fall short on being able to afford ministry expenses, advertising, and investments in our various resources like A.V. tech and software for example.
Sarah and I have cleaned up a lot of runaway spending and found ways to save in all conceivable areas. However, without us finding tenants, we will soon run out of our savings. We look forward to a tenant relationship, however this would limit our ability to grow somewhat, because our next move once we reach service capacity is to host a second service. With tenants, we can still grow in this way, but we will be limited.
We would appreciate an investment of at least $1200 per month so we do not require tenants to share our space with us. This would cover our budget shortage while still giving us room to grow. If we could get more money per month, we would use it all for outreach and ministry.
Pastor Salary – I have always done ministry through business, so I understand the value of having Christians in the work place. As an entrepreneur, that will likely always be a part of my calling, even if I don’t have to go back to full time secular clock punching. My wife and I have discussed the scenario of going back to work, and we have a plan in place in case it comes to that.
However, I am concerned for how this would affect our church. Our church needs more of a time commitment from me, and kingdom-minded committed servants like my wife and I. If either or both of us must go back to the workforce, our church will just have a weekend preacher. I would be limited to just enough time for church as it takes to preach, lead a small group, and very little more. We would just be maintaining, which describes this group for so many decades now, and I do not believe that is what God has in mind for our future.
A salary of at least $40,000 per year would give us the time we need to invest in this group and the tool called Church that God has blessed us with to accomplish His disciple making mission on earth.
Please keep our group sincerely in your prayers. God has used this group to see the lost get saved, and to grow Christians deeper into an authentic relationship with Christ who were considered by my predecessors to be lost causes. God is using our little church to impact our local community as well as Pakistan. We are seeing lives changed. We are seeing Christians outside of our group feeling motivated to join our team because they are encouraged by our vision and strategy. We are seeing non-believers outside of our group contributing to our efforts because they appreciate our values and community impact, even though they do not agree with our theology. We are seeing leaders being developed, trained, and being prepared to dispatch.
All of this in such a short amount of time since we first opened! We believe God is just getting started with this group, and yet we have so much to do before we are sustainable and established.
We petition your sincere and authentic prayers that God would provide for us in the ways I have listed, or any others as He sees fit.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you will align our hearts with yours, and show us what is your vision for our group. Please provide in such a way that you would be glorified. We give you our hearts and our hands to use as you see fit. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
